“Let’s
Plant Community Roots” Arbor
Day Planting 2014

The City of Encinitas’ and
Leucadia 101 Main Street Association are joining forces for the annual Arbor
Day Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2014, commemorating the
City’s third year as a designated “Tree City USA.”  The event will be staged in the parking lot
of Beacons Bible Church - 367 La Veta Avenue, 92024 beginning at 9 am.

The Arbor Day
Celebration will feature presentations, demonstrations, plantings, children’s
activities, and educational booths provided by West Coast Arborists, San Diego
Gas & Electric, and Davey’s Tree.  Families
with children will plant seeds and participate in planting a “fruit forest”
hosted by the Wishing Tree Company. Light refreshments will also be served.

Volunteers are being
sought to help plant trees and with other event activities during the Arbor Day
Celebration and may sign up on event day or register online in advance at www.EncinitasParksandRec.com,
“Arbor Day Volunteer/Course #3462.”  Volunteers
are encouraged to walk or bike to the event, to bring a water bottle, and wear closed-toe
shoes & a hat.  Tools will be
provided.  All volunteers are eligible to
win door prizes.

“Encinitas prides itself
on planting and caring for our trees,” said Donna Trotter, Program Coordinator
for the Public Works Street Maintenance Division. “Trees shade our homes and
businesses, they add beauty to our neighborhoods, and importantly trees add
environmental, economic and social benefits.”

the Arbor Day Celebration to participate in a morning of community, dedications,
tree planting, education, and children’s activities.
