Initial Phase Complete of Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas Acute Care Expansion (mcdmag.com) — A major expansion at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is now open, adding 36 patient beds and uniting key services in the new three-story Lusardi Tower. The Encinitas-based project is the first of nine phases planned through 2030, promising more clinical capacity, better campus circulation, and new outdoor spaces that reflect the city's coastal character.

2. Encinitas wins $33.6 million in grant money for railroad corridor projects (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas just secured $33.6 million in federal grants to add new rail crossings in Cardiff and Leucadia and create a major train-horn quiet zone from E Street to Leucadia Boulevard. Design work is already underway, and the city will cover a 20% match, promising safer access across the tracks and significantly less horn noise along the six-mile corridor.

3. New e-bike restrictions under consideration in Encinitas (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas leaders are weighing new e-bike rules after rising conflicts and collisions at local parks and trails, especially Encinitas Community Park and Sun Vista Park. City officials are exploring age limits, speed caps, more education, and tougher enforcement as youth and adult e-bike injuries increase across the region.

4. Pet of the week: Friendly, talkative Beagle mix (sandiegouniontribune.com) — If you're thinking about adopting, a friendly, talkative Beagle mix named Benito is available through the San Diego Humane Society, with August adoption fees discounted. The listing also highlights several nearby shelters, including Rancho Coastal Humane Society on Requeza Street in Encinitas, giving local families multiple options to find a new companion animal.
