Due to the staffing shortage, positions have been open for months, many going unfilled. Last year, it wasn’t unusual to see the executive team driving kids to the Clubhouses or for administrative staff to take on an after-school shift if there wasn’t enough coverage. The staffing shortage has also prevented youth and their families from receiving desperately needed services; currently, there are dozens of families on the waiting list for their After-School Programs and specialty programs.
To get ahead of the staffing shortage, Mark Edington, HR Director, had an idea for a job fair. “We’re ready to hire on the spot. We’re looking for people who are passionate about the community and want to work with children.”

Community is something Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito take seriously with many staff noting how they themselves felt supported by their coworkers and bosses, with a focus on flexibility of hours and the family-oriented atmosphere.
Lexi Arteaga, an aspiring teacher who previously worked at the Griset Club in Encinitas, said, “I loved working for Griset because of its commitment and closeness to the community. I enjoyed nurturing relationships with the community, and I felt my passion for education supported by staff, members, and families alike. I would not be who I am today without Griset.”
