Yoga Tropics: A Newbie Yogi's Review

A hot yoga studio that helps relax, heal and sculpt the body.

Yoga Tropics is a family-owned, hip hot yoga studio nestled in the heart of Encinitas with a strong community vibe that brings people of all experiences and cultures to their practice. Until last month I had never been to a class here and was (still am) considered a beginner.

Anyone who travels down the 101 has seen the infamous steamed windows and drenched yogis basking in the sun outside of the studio. It can be quite intimidating for a newbie. Don’t be intimidated. You’re sure to feel welcome and at ease – everyone is so nurturing, helpful and eager to make it a pleasurable experience. You can tell that people return not only for the yoga but the instruction and relationships they create with the teachers as well.

The location is ideal as it’s surrounded by coffee shops, eateries and of course, the beach. A favorite place of mine is Lotus Café, located right across the street – the perfect spot for your post yoga rehydrating Kombucha or organic, gluten free dish.

They offer a plethora of classes; 60 to 90 minutes, that are suited for the experienced as well as any beginner. A Vinyasa flow with offerings to relax, heal and sculpt the body, there are plenty of times to accommodate any schedule. Ten dollars for first timers as well as a week for free to get a feel for the classes – you’ll be hooked from your first downward dog…I was.

Make sure to bring a mat ($2 to rent) a full length towel to soak up the sweat (see picture) and a water bottle to keep hydtrated.
