ENCINITAS, CA – City officials are encouraging residents to be on the lookout for their invitation to complete the U.S. Census questionnaire as part of the once-a-decade national census count. Residents are being asked to complete the questionnaire online to save American taxpayers billions of dollars due to the cost of printing, mailing, and processing a mailed census questionnaire.

Census counts are due by June 30, 2020 and will record the total number of people living in a household as of April 1, 2020. Counts should include every person who lives at the residence, whether it’s an immediate family member, relative, friend, or tenant. There are no questions regarding citizenship on this year’s census so do not let your citizenship status prevent you from being counted. By law, the Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about people, their home, or business.
The preferred method of counting your household is online through the Census 2020 website. Counting can also be done by phone or by requesting a questionnaire which can be completed and mailed. Questionnaires will have a unique number identifying the residence. Those without online access who wish to complete the questionnaire electronically can use public computers at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, or at the County Public Library, 540 Cornish Drive.

The census count is used to allocate the share of federal funding that goes to Encinitas. So please help us get our fair share so we can continue to receive funding for important federal programs such as Head Start, lunch programs, and road maintenance.
The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2. The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790. For more information, please visit www.census.ca.gov.
