COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Public Health Notice - City Of Encinitas

The City is closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation and will coordinate with San Diego County on any infectious disease response plan.

Encinitas, CA – The City of Encinitas is closely monitoring the emergence and spread of the Coronavirus and the City is taking steps to provide the public and City employees information on how to help mitigate the risk of exposure.

The California Department of Public Health and the San Diego County Public Health and Human Services Agency warn that the Coronavirus can be spread through close personal contact and by touching objects with the virus on it. The State of California and other jurisdictions have declared emergencies to help free up resources and prepare for a potential spread of the virus.

What is the Coronavirus:

The Coronavirus is a respiratory illness with symptoms like the flu, which include fever, shortness of breath, sore throat, nasal congestion and cough. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure and there is no vaccine for the Coronavirus.

Protecting yourself and others:

Public health officials advise washing hands with soap and water, avoid touching your face, staying home when sick with Coronavirus like symptoms and avoid contact with people who are sick.

What the City is doing:

The City is closely monitoring the Coronavirus situation and will coordinate with San Diego County on any infectious disease response plan. The City has ordered portable handwashing stations for public gatherings, such as City Council meetings and special events.

The City has provided personal protective equipment to fire fighters and paramedics, and a new response plan has been adopted in the event that they encounter patients infected by the Coronavirus. The City has implemented “No Handshaking Zones” at all customer service counters and hand sanitizers are available in all public areas. The City is maintaining employee awareness about the Coronavirus risks and how to protect themselves and others.

City staff is also taking steps to ensure its Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) is ready to implement, if needed. The purpose of the COOP is to ensure that the capability exists to continue the City of Encinitas essential governmental functions across a wide range of potential emergencies.

City Council, Commission meetings and special events:

Currently, the California Department of Public Health is not recommending the cancellation of public events. City Council meetings and Commission meetings remain scheduled as planned.

The City is following the California Department of Public Health’s recommendations for these upcoming special events.

  • Encinitas Half Marathon – May 29
  • Spring Street Fair – April 25 and 26
