Easter Seals Opens New Head Start Facilities in Encinitas

Programs are designed to help pre-schoolers make successful transition to kindergarten.

Easter Seals Southern California (ESSC) has opened three new Child Development Centers (CDCs) in North San Diego County following the award of a Heart Start contract earlier this year.

The schools opened September 8 and now provide services to 280 pre-school children with center-based and home-based Head Start programs in the cities of Encinitas and Solana Beach. Easter Seals Southern California provides educational and physical activities, along with nutrition and parenting support.

“Expanding our services allows us to provide more children with the skills and confidence they need for a successful transition into kindergarten,” said Betty Reckard, vice president of child development at Easter Seals Southern California. “The community has truly embraced us and I’m excited we’ll be able to reach even more kids and families with our services.”

This expansion complements the services ESSC already provides to 102 children in seven cities in the region. In addition, ESSC Children’s Services will continue to provide education and support to more than 600 children and their families in the Inland Empire and Ventura.

“It’s wonderful getting to know the parents and the kids,” said Marilyn Rodriguez, Encinitas Head Start family support worker. “We want them to get involved and they’re excited to be involved and to have our program and our resources available to them.”
