Today, April 11, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) reported 2,087 confirmed cases, with 34 cases among Encinitas residents.

Pivoting to Online Selling: Six Tips for Success During COVID-19

The rise of the COVID-19 pandemic has forced small business owners everywhere to re-evaluate their business models and pivot to selling online instead of in their brick-and-mortar shops. If you are curious about setting up an online presence but have never tested those waters, the City of Encinitas is offering a free workshop for Encinitas businesses.

This 90-minute workshop is designed for the novice technologist, and will present six steps to success, including determining feasibility of selling online, building your online storefront, leveraging online marketplaces, developing social media marketing and more!

This free event is sponsored by the City of Encinitas, Encinitas Chamber of Commerce, Cardiff Main Street 101, Encinitas Main Street 101, and Leucadia Main Street 101.

Support for Workers Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic

On April 14, 2020, the California Labor Secretary, Julie A. Su, posted an Open Letter to Californians Regarding Unemployment Insurance (UI) Payments and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Timeline. The Labor & Workforce Development Agency has redirected and trained 300 Employment Development Department (EDD) staff members to handle the additional workflow that has occurred due to an unprecedented number of requests for relief from California workers who have lost jobs or are experiencing reduced employment. Unemployment benefits have been expanded to assist the self-employed, individuals who lack sufficient work history, and independent contractors. There are some options available for “gig” workers as well. Funding comes from the federal CARES Act which created a special program for this crisis called the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, or PUA. The redirected staff are spread throughout California to reduce wait times for the application process and payment delivery. For additional information please follow this link.
