ENCINITAS, CA — An employee at a school in northern San Diego County was arrested for sex crimes against a minor, authorities said Tuesday.

Omar Galeana, 21, a campus supervisor at Diegueno Middle School in Encinitas, is suspected of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old during non-school hours on Friday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

He was arrested Sunday and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of child molestation and furnishing marijuana to a minor, Lt. Lon Nguyen said.

Galeana worked as a campus supervisor at the school for three months and is no longer employed by the district, according to a letter obtained by Patch that was sent to families from San Dieguito Union High School District.

"Members of our administrative team will be visiting with all classes to reinforce messages about campus safety and to gently and firmly remind all students that their voices are important tools to help keep our students and staff safe," Superintendent Anne Staffieri said in the letter. "We encourage parents and families to reinforce these messages with your students."

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the department at 858-565-5200.
