25th Annual Deep Pit BBQ

The San Dieguito Heritage Museum will celebrate local heritage by hosting its 25th Annual Deep Pit BBQ at the museum site. The BBQ event starts at noon and food will be served until 2:30 p.m. The event will feature live music performed by Two of Us Plus One. There will be a Wild West re-enactment on the grounds where the good guy foils the bad guys plans. There will be kid’s activities, a silent auction, and a bake sale. And of course the museum will be open for visitors to browse through. Come experience our new exhibit, ‘La Paloma Theatre at 85’. We will also feature dogs from Next Step. Next Step trains service dogs to work with veterans with PTSD. Several vehicles will also be on display, including a 1957 Del Mar Fire Department fire engine, a stagecoach, a 1917 Model T Ford and other unique cars.

This year the Deep Pit BBQ celebrates the contributions of Carolyn Cope to the heritage of the San Dieguito area. She is the recipient of the “Living Heritage Award” for her many years of volunteering in the community. This year’s BBQ is also special as it features the Deep Pit BBQ. For 20 years, the San Dieguito Heritage Museum’s BBQ was cooked in the ground according to tradition. Cooking BBQ in a deep pit makes the tastiest BBQ.
