LGBT History Month Event

Transgender Awareness and Advocacy: A North County Community Roundtable October 28, 2015 in Encinitas

Recently transgender stories have come to the forefront in our media, but we still have much to learn about the unique experiences of the trans community and how to best support them. Join Jewish Family Service, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center and PFLAG North Coastal County to learn more about creating safe spaces and becoming visible allies.

In honor of National LGBT History Month, we invite all parents, educators, leaders and all adults who want to learn more about supporting our LGBTQ youth to bring their questions. We’ll cover everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask: What terms should I use? When does a child begin to understand their gender identity? What does it mean to be an ally? How can I create safe, inclusive spaces? What’s at stake?

The community discussion will be held at the Encinitas Community Center on Wednesday, October 28Light appetizers and community connections will be served up from 6-6:30pm. The Roundtable discussion, moderated by Jewish Family Service, will be held from 6:30-8:00pm and include Max Disposti- Founder of North County LGBTQ Resource Center, Annette Ottone- North Coastal County PFLAG Representative, Dr. Nicole Kent- Clinical Psychologist specializing in LGBTQ and Our Circle Facilitator, Maria Al-Shamma- Director of Project Youth Committee, Marc Lim- Director of Gender Advocacy Project
