Over 5,500 Without Power In Encinitas​, North San Diego County

Multiple outages left thousands without power Thursday in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Sorrento Valley and University City.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Multiple outages left more than 5,500 San Diego Gas & Electric customers without power Thursday morning in San Diego's North County.

The first outage at 2:41 a.m. affected 90 customers near Encinitas, according to SDG&E's online outage map. A second outage at 4:24 a.m. impacted 1,463 customers in Encinitas and Carlsbad. A third outage at 3:52 a.m. knocked out power to about 4,004 customers in the Sorrento Valley and University City areas.

By 7:15 a.m., crews had restored power to all customers affected by the second outage and all but 20 customers affected by the third outage, SDG&E spokesman Wes Jones said. All remaining customers were expected to have their power restored by 8 a.m., he said.

A tree knocked down a power line and caused the first outage, while a malfunctioning circuit breaker caused the third outage. The cause of the second outage was still under investigation, Jones said.
