Led by an Encinitas native architect, the plan ties into state Prop 2 funding and will guide upgrades from science labs and gyms to safety, e-bike paths, and career-tech spaces.
   

2. NEWS: Sens. Schiff, Padilla Announce Over $150 Million to Upgrade Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner Route (senate.gov) — Encinitas is set to receive $33.6 million in federal rail funding to add new vehicle and pedestrian gates, build safer bike and pedestrian crossings, and construct a new undercrossing along the Pacific Surfliner route. The broader $150 million package, championed by Sens. Schiff and Padilla, aims to improve safety, reliability, and travel times along the coastal rail corridor serving North County communities.
   

3. ICA San Diego lays off nearly half its staff due to financial pressures (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas art lovers should know ICA San Diego is laying off nearly half its staff, though the North campus here remains open for classes, ceramics, and the Sculpture Trail. Financial pressures, funding cuts, and changing nonprofit models forced the museum to temporarily close its Balboa Park site while leaders rethink a more sustainable future for both campuses.
   

4. Rockstar Energy Open 2026 Final Results (yardbarker.com) — Encinitas skateboarder Braden Hoban claimed second place in the Men's Street final at the Rockstar Energy Open in Portland, standing out in a field of top international skaters. The three-day event crowned champions in Women's Street, Men's Street, and Men's Park, with high-scoring runs, repeat winners, and big crowds celebrating world-class skateboarding on Portland's waterfront.
