Encinitas reschedules debate on red light cameras (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas is revisiting whether to bring back red light cameras, with a key City Council discussion now set for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at City Hall on South Vulcan Avenue. Councilmembers will weigh a new policy under a state law that lowers fines, removes license points, and focuses cameras on license plates instead of drivers, potentially reshaping enforcement at major Encinitas intersections.

At Least One Killed in Encinitas Multi-vehicle Crash on I-5 (pacificattorneygroup.com) — A deadly multi-vehicle crash early Saturday on northbound I-5 just south of Leucadia Boulevard in Encinitas closed lanes for several hours and left at least one person dead. CHP reports an SUV, a Nissan Sentra, and another vehicle were involved, with investigators still working to determine what caused the collision and whether others were injured.

(lexblog.com) — If you shop at Encinitas spots like Fox Point Farms, Harvest Ranch, Lofty Coffee, or Nectarine Grove, you may have purchased Happy Hens eggs now under a state recall for Salmonella risk. California health officials say 23 people are sick, and affected in-shell organic eggs with specific August pack and September sell-by dates should be thrown away or returned for a refund and reported if still on shelves.
   

4. Del Mar prepares for winter storms, flooding as El Niño looms (thecoastnews.com) — Del Mar officials are ramping up storm and flooding preparations for an expected strong El Niño, while also updating residents on fire protection changes after Encinitas exited a shared management agreement. For Encinitas neighbors, the shift means Del Mar and Solana Beach now operate a smaller joint service area, relying more heavily on mutual aid if major fires or emergencies strike the region.
   

5. Travel + Leisure's Top-Ranked U.S. Destination for 2026 Declares Beach Safety Emergency: 'So Sad to See' (parade.com) — Carlsbad has declared a temporary beach safety emergency through September 15 to stabilize eroding coastal bluffs and address hazardous conditions near Tamarack State Beach. For Encinitas residents and visitors, local beaches remain open and are suggested as safer alternatives, but officials still urge everyone to check for posted warnings and changing conditions before heading out for late-summer beach days.
