The Rhoades School Students Excel at County Science Fair
Students won multiple first place prizes and qualified for state and national competitions

Middle school students from The Rhoades School in Encinitas recently earned a number of awards at the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair, including eight first place prizes, to make the Rhoades School the highest performing school in the county. An additional seven Rhoades School students qualified for the California Science & Engineering Fair and four students qualified for the national Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge.
Rhoades School students earned eight first place awards, including three top awards in the Junior Division: the Grand Award in Life Sciences (Lily Long), the Grand Award first runner up in Life Sciences (Sami Sternson) and the Grand Award first runner up in Physical Sciences (Keanu Zeller).
Rhoades School students also received a number of awards from professional societies, including the San Diego section of the American Chemical Society (Adam Jaimovich and Zakari Sayed); the Association for Women in Science (Lily Long); the San Diego Psychological Association (Lily Long and Medha Ravi); the Marine Technology Society (John Powers); the Department of Defense STEM Leadership Prize (Sami Sternson); the Society of American Military Engineers (Sami Sternson); Professional Engineers in California Government (Keanu Zeller); and the American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (Keanu Zeller).

Each year, the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair accepts hundreds of projects from more than 100 schools to participate in the county-wide competition. More than 400 judges from the science, engineering and education communities evaluate projects and interview students to determine place awards, in addition to 60 professional societies and organizations that offer special awards and scholarships totaling over $50,000.
