San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy Education Programs Awarded EPA Grant
Nationally Recognized Program Connects Youth From Escondido Title I Elementary Schools Upstream, to the Coast

San Elijo Lagoon Conservancy, the nonprofit land trust for San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, was just awarded a federal grant for its dynamic conservation education programs by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
This nationally competitive grant recognizes the Conservancy's work in promoting environmental awareness and stewardship, through the practice of using new techniques to inspire positive changes; criteria EPA considers. The EPA fund will directly support the Our Living Watershed school program serving Escondido's Title I elementary schools.
These youth live upstream in the Escondido watershed. By introducing them to the coast and San Elijo Lagoon downstream, they are learning about their interconnected relationships in nature, from the mountains to the sea. Conservancy staff and naturalists, who lead field trips, guide students to observe, ask questions, and arrive at environmental solutions. It's about inspiring lives, one footstep at a time. The Conservancy will welcome more than 3,000 students from all its partner schools this year.
