Student Accused Of Vandalizing San Dieguito Academy In Encinitas

ENCINITAS, CA — A student was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of vandalizing San Dieguito Academy High School on New Year's Day.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, is accused of spray painting racist and homophobic slurs on the administration building at the Encinitas school just before 4 a.m. on Jan. 1. The graffiti caused nearly $725 in damage, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The teen was later released to the custody of his parents, sheriff's Sgt. Paul Michalke said.

"This case will be presented to the San Diego (County) District Attorney's Office for prosecution and review," Michalke said.
