6 Amazing Foods That Will Strengthen Your Nails

ABC Compounding Pharmacy of Los Angeles shares foods that will make your nails stronger and healthier.

Did you know that certain foods can help prevent nail problems? Some foods can improve brittle or flaking nails. Others can give dull nails a more lustrous shine. That’s right. The foods that we eat have a direct effect on our outward appearance, right down to the tips of our nails. At ABC Compounding Pharmacy, we’d like to share with you foods you can eat to achieve strong, healthy nails.

1. Eat more beans to improve dull nails. Other foods include spinach, peas, leafy vegetables, and lentils. Increasing the levels of Vitamin B folate in our diets helps to reduce the appearance of dull nails that is very common as we begin to get a bit older.

2. Eat more flaxseed oil to improve flaking or brittle nails. The fatty acids contained in flaxseed oil help to moisturize the nail beds which can lead to this frustrating condition. Add a couple of tablespoons to your morning cereal or include it in a smoothie.

3. Eat more keratin to improve softer nails. The body makes keratin from the proteins that we eat, like pork loin, poultry, sliced turkey, and other lean meats. Seafood is also high in protein, like mackerel or salmon.

4. Eat more iron-rich foods to improve weaker nails. Eggs, fortified cereals, and spinach are high-iron foods that will do the trick. Mixing them with foods high in Vitamin C, like tomatoes, fruits, or bell peppers, will help the body speed up the absorption of the iron.

5. Use more olive oil to improve dryer nails. You don’t even have to use the olive oil in your foods. By simply rubbing a bit of olive oil around the nail beds before you go to sleep at night, you can see a dramatic improvement in just a couple of days.

6. Eat more bananas to improve splitting nails. The high levels of zinc found in bananas helps to increase the levels of biotin in the body. It is this lack of biotin that usually leads to splitting nails.

Mother Nature always has a cure for nearly every ailment that we encounter, including any problems associated with our beautiful nails. If you are tired of working so hard to maintain a beautiful set of nails, then perhaps you should take a look at your daily diet. Maybe you just need to eat a couple of turkey sandwiches or some tasty bananas to resolve the problem.
