The San Fernando Valley Bromeliad Society meets on the first Saturday of each month at the Sepulveda Garden Center meeting room. The March 2nd meeting will feature:
10:00 am Speaker: Nels Christianson
Topic: "Travels In Argentina" (No Admission Fee) We will be treated to a power point travelogue presentation featuring a variety of plants, mostly Bromeliads, landscapes and towns people. Photos taken in the Fall of 2012. Nels loves photography and really knows his subject matter.
Nels said Hobby is his middle name! He collects stamps, postmarks and Zuni carved fetishes. Besides travel, hiking and photography he also enjoys ceramics and gardening. Nels has more than 500 cacti, succulents and Bromeliads and many are growing in his own pottery. He has traveled to most of the countries of Latin America but favors Brazil. He is an active member of several local Bromeliad Societies and Cactus and Succulent groups. Traveling to Latin America more than 20 times visiting friends, studying the culture and plants. He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese as well as English and a little French. At home in the USA he studied Political Sci., Hispanic Civilization, and Latin American Studies and he attended classes in Brazilian literature at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1976-77 on a Rotary Foundation scholarship. In his spare time he also judges poetry and several of his poems about nature have been published
