Police Surround Armed Elderly Woman Holed Up in Topanga Trailer Park

Deputies responding to a medical aid call saw an armed woman in her 70s, but she fled before they could stop her.

UPDATED AT 2:27 P.M.: Authorities today were working to persuade an armed woman to surrender after she barricaded herself inside a mobile home in the Calabasas area and fired some shots.

No injuries were reported in the incident that began about 5:35 a.m., when deputies went to the 4200 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard Boulevard in unincorporated Topanga just north of Calabasas on a “medical assistance” call, according to the sheriff’s department.

The woman -- said to be about 70 years old -- pulled a gun and fled into one of the mobile homes before they could contact her, according to the sheriff’s department.

Law enforcement personnel set up a containment in the mobile home park and were working to convince the woman to surrender.

She fired some shots, but no one was hit, a deputy said. The standoff was continuing early this afternoon.
