Escondido Gang Shooting: 2 Arrested After Woman Killed By Stray Bullet
A stray bullet from a gang shooting killed Catherine Kennedy, 55, an uninvolved passerby driving home from church March 7 in Escondido.

ESCONDIDO, CA – Authorities on Thursday announced two arrests in connection with a North County gang shooting that killed a woman who happened to be passing by while driving home from church.
According to the Escondido Police Department, the suspects – a 24-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy – were involved in a dispute over graffiti when one of them allegedly opened fire shortly after 9 p.m. on March 7 in the 1900 block of East Grand Avenue in Escondido.
A stray bullet struck 55-year-old Catherine Kennedy of Escondido. She was found with a gunshot wound to her head after her silver Toyota Camry crashed into a parked vehicle alongside eastbound Grand Avenue near Midway Drive.

The victim was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The names of the suspects were not immediately available.

Police said the man is believed to be the shooter. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of murder but have not yet been charged by the District Attorney’s Office.
The adult is expected to be arraigned tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the Vista Courthouse and the juvenile is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Juvenile Courthouse.
