Six students took the prescription drug during lunchtime at Rincon Middle School in Escondido, police said.

ESCONDIDO, CA – A middle schooler was arrested last week after allegedly selling prescription drugs to his classmates at Rincon Middle School in Escondido.

Six children ages 11 to 13 years old took Xanax at lunchtime on Oct. 25, according to the Escondido Police Department. Three of the children required emergency medical treatment after taking the anti-anxiety drug, Escondido police Lt. Justin Murphy said. All six have since recovered with no lasting effects.

After an investigation, Escondido police arrested the juvenile suspect on Oct. 31. The 13-year-old boy was charged on suspicion of selling or distributing narcotics or illegal substances. He was released to the custody of his parents, Murphy said.
