Crews Work To Fully Contain Pasqual, Rock Fires In San Diego Co.

The Pasqual Fire in San Pasqual Valley scorched 365 acres, while the Rock Fire near Fallbrook burned 207 acres, fire officials said.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA – Firefighters have fully contained a fire that sparked last week in San Pasqual Valley, while crews continued to make progress fighting another blaze that broke out over the weekend near Fallbrook, Cal Fire announced Monday.

A fire that sparked Friday near the San Diego Zoo Safari Park scorched 365 acres and was fully contained by Monday evening, fire officials said. The blaze, called the Pasqual Fire, started for unknown reasons shortly before 1:30 p.m. off the 17000 block of state Route 78 in San Pasqual Valley.

All evacuation orders were lifted by Saturday, while all road closures along SR-78 were lifted Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

Meanwhile, crews have continued to make progress on another fire that erupted Saturday near Fallbrook. The blaze, dubbed the Rock Fire, scorched 207 acres and was 90 percent contained by Monday evening, fire officials said.

Reports of the fire first came at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The blaze sparked for unknown reasons along Rock Mountain Drive near Sandia Creek Drive, just south of the Riverside County line.

All evacuation orders were lifted Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in either fire, according to Cal Fire. Crews were expected to remain at the scene of the Rock Fire overnight Monday to patrol the area and mop up hot spots.

The causes of both fires remained under investigation.
