DUI Checkpoint Planned In Escondido

The DUI and driver's license checkpoint will take place Friday in Escondido.

ESCONDIDO, CA – Escondido police will hold a DUI and driver's license checkpoint Friday. The department's traffic unit will operate the checkpoint at an undisclosed location within city limits, Lt. Scott Walters said.

Officers will be on the lookout for drivers with signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment during the checkpoint, Walters said. Police will also check for valid licensing.

In 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads, according to police. Last year, the Escondido Police Department investigated 90 DUI collisions which resulted in three deaths and 120 injuries.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
