Brush Fire Breaks Out Along I-15 In Rainbow

UPDATE: The 1.6-acre blaze, which broke out alongside southbound Interstate 15 in North San Diego County, is fully contained.

RAINBOW, CA – Firefighters battled a brush fire Monday in Rainbow.

The 1.6-acre blaze broke out around 1 p.m. alongside southbound Interstate 15, south of Rainbow Valley Boulevard in North San Diego County, according to Cal Fire. The fire was fully contained around 6 p.m.

Emergency crews positioned themselves at the Oak Crest Estates, a nearby mobile home park, but no evacuations were made and no injuries were reported.

North County Fire Protection reported that firefighters had stopped forward progress of the fire by 1:40 p.m. By 2:40 p.m., the blaze was 50 percent contained. The fire was fully contained around 6 p.m.

The third and fourth southbound lanes of the freeway were closed in the area due to the fire and remained closed throughout the evening commute, according to Caltrans. Officials asked people to avoid the area.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. No other details were available.
