Palomar College Unveils New Library & Resource Center

SAN MARCOS, CA – Palomar College will hold a grand opening ceremony Friday for the library and learning resource center at its San Marcos campus.

The college held a soft opening for the library at the beginning of the spring 2019 semester, but will formally christen the 85,000-square-foot facility Friday. The new library cost $67 million, including $1 million to remodel the top floor into a new office suite for college President Joi Lin Blake.

The funding for the library came from 2006's Proposition M, a ballot measure giving the college access to $694 million for campus renovations and improvements. State officials approved the library plan in December 2014.

"This beautiful new building is a stellar example of Palomar's commitment to innovation and building for the future," Blake said at the beginning of the semester. "We were proud to welcome our students into their new library ... and we look forward to welcoming the community to celebrate its official grand opening later this month."

The library's grand opening is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Palomar College officials are expected to deliver remarks and offer tours to the ceremony's guests.
