Escondido Main Break Leaves Some Without Water, Causes Sinkhole

A water main break created a sinkhole that sucked in a parked vehicle, shut down an intersection and left 26 customers without water.

ESCONDIDO, CA — A water main break Tuesday in Escondido created a sinkhole that sucked in a parked vehicle, shut down an intersection and left more than two dozen customers without water.

The break of the 12-inch water main was reported around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and South Pine Street, Escondido Director of Utilities Christopher McKinney said.

A vehicle parked on the street fell into the 4-foot deep sinkhole created by the rushing water, which also entered at least two homes, 10News reported.
