Escondido Police To Conduct DUI Patrols Friday (patch.com) — Escondido drivers are being warned that police will run extra DUI patrols from Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning, targeting impairment from alcohol, drugs, and even some medications. Residents are urged to plan sober rides, as a first-time DUI in California can cost around $13,500 and lead to a suspended license.
   

2. Escondido bans riders under 12 on e-bikes as crashes surge to 35 this year (10news.com) — Escondido has tightened its e-bike rules, banning riders under 12 and adding fines starting at $50 as crashes have surged to 35 this year. The City Council's 4–1 vote also restricts where e-bikes can operate, requires safety education, and targets reckless riding, aiming to protect young riders and pedestrians on local streets and trails.
   

3. 12 Dogs Taken In After Fire At Escondido Senior Living Community (patch.com) — A fire at a senior living community on East Grand Avenue in Escondido forced residents and their pets to evacuate, sending a dozen dogs into emergency care at the San Diego Humane Society's Escondido campus. Veterinarians checked about 25 animals for smoke inhalation, and fortunately none needed critical treatment as the dogs received temporary boarding and monitoring locally.
   

4. Former Escondido housing site could become San Pasqual tribal land (thecoastnews.com) — A long-disputed Escondido-area housing site near San Diego Zoo Safari Park may instead be purchased for return to the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, with conservation limits to block future development. Oswit Land Trust is racing to secure state and tribal grants, while Escondido's City Council has backed related legislation to return nearby parklands to the tribe.
