1. Video, more information on Facebook about 6th and H (blogspot.com) — A serious collision has blocked H Street between 5th and 6th in Eureka, with police and an ambulance responding and multiple injuries reported, including juveniles. Eureka Police Commander Leonard LaFrance says DUI is not suspected and a red-light violation appears likely, while officers continue gathering statements and working to reopen the roadway.
   

2. Suspected fentanyl, meth found after arrest of Eureka man for reckless driving (krcrtv.com) — Eureka Police arrested a 41-year-old Eureka man Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly sped through the 1400 block of I Street, made unsafe lane changes, and briefly failed to yield. Officers say they later found suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine in his car, and he was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on reckless driving, probation violation, and drug possession charges.
   

3. Two Blues Named 2026 Goldwater Scholars (whitman.edu) — A Whitman College chemistry major from Eureka, Keenan RiggsTurpin, has been named a 2026 Goldwater Scholar, one of the nation’s top STEM honors for undergraduates. The award will help fund his senior year and supports his path toward a Ph.D. in inorganic materials chemistry. His work on greener nanomaterials highlights the big scientific ambitions growing out of Eureka roots.
   

4. Governor Newsom's Clean California initiative celebrates 100 community designations across the Golden State, leading the way for safer and cleaner environments (crossingstv.com) — Eureka has just been officially named a Clean California Community, recognizing local efforts to reduce litter and beautify public spaces. The statewide program has funded hundreds of cleanup and beautification projects and removed massive amounts of trash from roads and public areas. Eureka’s new designation could help attract more resources, volunteer efforts, and pride in keeping the city cleaner and greener.
