The event started at the Hope Center on H Street, which offers weekday drop‑in support for anyone seeking mental health resources in Eureka. Organizers stressed keeping mental health visible and accessible for all community members.

2. ‘There will be many more bites at this apple'; Supervisors reapprove HCSO oversight plan (times-standard.com) — Humboldt County supervisors have again moved forward on creating a civilian-led oversight system for the Sheriff’s Office, a step that would shape law enforcement accountability for Eureka residents as well. Eureka’s own police oversight member, a city councilmember, and local residents weighed in on both sides, as an ad hoc committee now drafts an ordinance due in September.

3. Eureka Friday Night Markets return May 22 with road closures and added safety measures (krcrtv.com) — Eureka’s Friday Night Markets are coming back May 22, bringing planned street closures, a marked pedestrian route, and a bike valet downtown to keep visitors moving safely. Several streets will be closed to vehicles during market hours, and police will be on hand, even handing out stickers to local kids. Check the city’s map before you head out.

4. 26th Annual North Coast Open Studios (northcoastjournal.com) — Eureka residents can look forward to North Coast Open Studios in early June, with free studio visits stretching from Eureka to Trinidad and Willow Creek. Guidebooks are available in Old Town Eureka, where kickoff hours overlap with the Friday Night Markets, making it easy to combine art, shopping, and local food into one evening out.

5. PG&E warns Californians about dangers of swimming in cold rivers (edhat.com) — Cold river safety warnings relevant across California are backed by data from the National Weather Service office in Eureka, which notes northwest rivers can be as chilly as the ocean. PG&E and officials stress that sudden immersion in these swift, snowmelt-fed rivers can quickly cause hypothermia, vertigo, and loss of muscle control. Locals heading inland to escape heat should treat these rivers with extreme caution.
