• Humboldt County gas prices jump in May, among highest in nation, Cal Poly report says (krcrtv.com) — Eureka drivers are now paying about $6.41 a gallon for gas, among the highest prices in California and well above state and national averages. A new Cal Poly Humboldt Economic Index report also tracks mixed trends in Humboldt County’s housing, jobs, retail sales, and electricity use, offering a snapshot of how the local economy is shifting.
   

• HCSO: Military ordinance found and removed from Eureka property (times-standard.com) — Military ordnance was discovered and safely removed from a Eureka property on Pigeon Point Road after a resident found ammunition boxes while clearing brush. Sheriff’s deputies and Air Force EOD specialists secured and detonated the items offsite, and residents are urged to leave any suspicious explosives alone and immediately call law enforcement.
