A Fair Oaks resident who oversees Kaiser Permanente’s Clinical Education program has received a major award from the national organization that accredits institutions and organizations that offer continuing medical education.
Carol Havens, MD, a family medicine physician for Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, is a recipient of the 2012 Robert Raszkowski, MD, PhD, ACCME Hero Award, presented by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
In addition to her duties as a physician with the Chemical Dependency Recovery Program in Sacramento, Dr. Havens also is the Regional Director of Clinical Education for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, an area that encompasses 21 major medical centers.

The award is presented for the “extraordinary commitment and generosity of time and expertise” that enables the ACCME to fulfill its mission of setting standards for quality continuing medical education (CME) and assuring that accredited CME providers meet those standards.
“This is, indeed, an honor. I am humbled to be included among colleagues who have contributed so much to CME as a whole and to my own education and development,” Dr. Havens said. “It is a special honor to receive an award named for Bob Raszkowski who was a hero in our field. I have been privileged to work with wonderful mentors and leaders and I am inspired by the passion and enthusiasm of colleagues both new and seasoned. I think one of the requirements of a professional is to give back to the profession which has given me so much and I have tried to do that through the ACCME and the state medical societies.”
