Clever narrative, humor and even some animation--those are some of the ingredients found in the more than 100 videos submitted in the Water Spots video contest, sponsored by the Regional Water Authority (RWA), Sacramento Bee and local water providers.
From upbeat jingles to serious messages about water scarcity, Sacramento-area high school students showed off their creativity in 30-second public service announcement videos on the contest's 2013 theme: Check sprinkler systems every month for water-wasting problems and make repairs within 48 hours.
A panel of distinguished judges narrowed the videos down to 10 finalists, now it's the public's turn to vote for their favorite by Friday, April 26, 2013 at www.sacbee.com/mie.

The finalists, "Judges Choice" and "People's Choice" winners will be unveiled on Sunday, May 5 at 12:25 p.m. on Raley Field's Jumbotron before the Sacramento River Cats game. Winning students and teachers will receive cash prizes.

Judges included Kathleen Dodge from the Tahoe Film Commission; Leo Winternitz from The Nature Conservancy; Monica Woods from News10; Rita Schmidt Sudman from the Water Education Foundation; and Liz Salmi from Greenwise. The selections were based on creativity, entertainment value, accuracy, originality and incorporation of the 2013 water efficiency message.
