New Youth Law Enforcement Academy Announced In Sacramento Co.

News from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office:

District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced today the launch of a new Youth Academy program, in partnership with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and Sacramento Police Department.

Students are invited to actively learn about the criminal justice system, hear from our criminal justice partners, and engage in open communication with law enforcement about issues that affect youth today.

Topics include: anatomy of a criminal case, race as a factor in the criminal justice system, law enforcement use of force, gun violence, gangs, dating violence, stalking, human trafficking, marijuana and the law, Laboratory of Forensic Services, crime scene investigation (CSI) and distracted driving. There will also be an optional one-day field trip to the Sacramento Superior Court.

Classes will be held twice a month on Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m.
beginning October 8, 2015 through March 31, 2016
at the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Community Center (7000 65th St. Sacramento 95823)

The program is open to current Sacramento County high school students (incoming 10th through 12th graders). Eligible students can apply for the program in the fall of 2015. They must submit a completed application, which can be downloaded at www.sacda.org.

The deadline to apply is September 11, 2015.

DA Anne Marie Schubert states, “The Youth Academy is another opportunity for us to increase understanding, improve relationships between youth and members of the criminal justice system, and encourage our youth to explore various career opportunities. I will continue to find new ways to provide students with positive influences and instill in them a sense of commitment to community safety.”
