Foster City Friend Talks About Second Careers
Second careers may include volunteerism or new interests. Stay healthy and age well by staying in the game!
I am delighted to write my first Blog for the Foster City Patch. As a long time fan of Foster City, a smart city, well-run with great ammenities for citizens and friends, I find it is also a great spot for elder life and second careers. Consider the newly retiring police chief, Craig Courtin. He has had a wonderful career in Foster City and now will enlarge his Foster City Rotary volunteerism to become the next Foster City Rotary President. He will embark on wonderful philanthropic and charitable projects for Foster City and beyond.
Today's retirees don't think of themselves as senior citizens. They want to remain involved in society. Staying engaged and active is important for a good quality of life at any level of our senior years. Socialization is key to maintaining it and giving back through volunteerism is a good way to do it. Starting a second career is a good option as well. Interests that you may have had over the years without the time to do it may be a good choice now. My own husband, Don, became a level one tennis professional when he was retired from a 32 year career as a city manager.
Society is ready for us to live a long and active life. It is thought in gerontological higher education cirlces that the first person to live to be 140, is 60 years of age today. Share your talents and stay in the game while aging well!
