The Stanford Summer Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Summer Chorus will perform "Lobgesang" (Hymn of Praise), Felix Mendelssohn's epic "symphony-cantata", on July 31 and August 1 in Bing Concert Hall. Considered one of Mendelssohn's greatest works, it was the first symphony after Beethoven's 9th to combine orchestra and chorus. The soloists are sopranos Esther Tonea and Jennie Yukyung Byun and tenor Chance Jonas-O'Toole. Esther is a former Adler Fellow at SF Opera and winner of the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. Chance Jonas-O'Toole, a former member of the Merola Program at SF Opera, sang with Deutsche Oper Berlin for the past two seasons and is now back singing with SF Opera. Jennie Yukyung Byun is a prominent soprano soloist living the Bay Area. Conductor Paul Phillips is the Gretchen B. Kimball Director of Orchestra Studies at Stanford, where he also directs the Stanford Symphony Orchestra and Stanford Philharmonia. The program opens with an overture by the remarkable British opera composer Ethel Smyth and a choral work, "Heavenly Home", arranged by Shawn Kirchner and conducted by Rafael Ornes.

About the Book
In What You Need to Know About AI, James Wang cuts through the noise around one of today’s most talked-about technologies. With clarity and insight, he explores the history, principles and real-world implications of AI, helping readers better understand a fast-changing field that is already influencing daily life.
Meet James Wang
James Wang is a technologist, investor and writer with over a decade of experience in AI and deep tech. He is a general partner at Creative Ventures, an early-stage deep tech fund backing breakthroughs in AI, synthetic biology and advanced materials.
Previously, James worked at Bridgewater Associates and worked at Google's "moonshot" innovation lab, X. He has served as a board director at startups working in AI, healthcare and robotics and is a regular guest lecturer at UC Berkeley on entrepreneurship and startup financing.
Meet Featured Host Nydia Zhang
Nydia Zhang is an art gallerist, Investor and social entrepreneur whose work brings together art, technology and social impart. She began her career in Hong Kong’s gallery world before moving into venture capital and private investments, with a focus on food-tech and emerging technologies.
Nydia co-founded a grant-making foundation for blockchain social impact initiatives and serves as an ambassador to the Global Blockchain Business Council, a UN partner organization advancing technology for the Sustainable Development Goals.&nbsp;
