CSM Track and Field Notebook: Richardson Narrowly Misses CSM 200 Mark, McDaniel Extends National Shot Put Lead
CSM runner within .01 seconds of school record.
Keith Richardson ran the second fastest 200-meter clocking in College of San Mateo history and Evan McDaniel increased his state and national JC shot put lead Wednesday afternoon.
In the track portion of the “Last Possible Chance to Qualify” meet at Las Positas College in Livermore, Richardson ran the 200 in 21.53 seconds and the 100 meters in 10.81 seconds.
His 200 time missed the school record of 21.52 set by Jim Walker in 1981 by just .01. The 100 time ranks sixth on CSM’s all-time list.

In the throws portion of the meet, held at CSM, McDaniel put the shot 55 feet, 10 ¼ inches, adding 6 ½ inches to his previous best.
The next best throw by a community college athlete this year is 55-2 by Jordan Haynes (Coffeyville, Kan.) to win the National Junior college Athletic Association indoor championship last month.

CSM's Josh Uikilifi was second in the shot Wednesday at 50-9 ¼. He already ranks No. 3 in the state at 53-1 ¾ this season.
Other winning performances for CSM Wednesday included Nathan Wright in the men’s discus throw (154-2), Zeke Edwards in the men’s javelin throw (164-3) and Nikki Uikilifi in the women’s discus throw (142-2).
Wright ranks No. 9 in the state in the discus this season at 157-6, just behind McDaniels’ best of 159-3. Edwards is No. 9 in the javelin at 178-3.
Nikki Uikilifi is the most versatile women’s thrower in the state, ranking in the top six in all four events: No. 2 in the javelin (133-11), No. 3 in both the shot (42-7 ½) and discus (144-3), and No. 6 in the hammer throw (154-11).
CSM will compete in the Coast Conference Championships at Hartnell College in Salinas on April 25 and 28, and will host the Northern California Trials (May 4) and Finals (May 11).
Summers tops open competition:
Several open athletes took advantage of CSM’s elite throwing facilities at Wednesday’s meet. The day’s top performance was a 188-9 throw in the women’s discus by Jere Summers, ranking her No. 9 in the nation in this Olympic year.
