Hello, My Name Is...

Hey there. My name is Sarah, and I'm your friendly neighborhood Patch editor. I'm excited about the launch of Foster City Patch, and can't wait to hear from you about your reaction to our site. But first, let's get to know each other.

Me? I'm a bit of an anomaly. I was raised on the Southern Louisiana Gulf Coast, but now live in the bustling Bay Area. I split my college years between a large, football crazed state school (Louisiana State University...Geaux Tigers!) and a smaller palm tree-covered private school, Santa Clara University, where I ultimately received my degree in Political Science and Communication. I like to knit...while screaming at a baseball game on the radio. I'm a super picky eater who refuses tomato sauce on pizza, but I love to cook up a storm in the kitchen. I'm an online journalist hopelessly tethered to her iPhone, but I often craves the feeling of news ink on my hands.

Ultimately for me, it all comes down to words --- on the page, on the web, in my head. At Patch, we want to bring you old school, Watergate-style follow the money journalism along with stories about the the people you care about --- your friends and neighbors. But instead of being armed with typewriters in smoke filled newsrooms, we're breaking news with shiny MacBooks from inside Starbucks. We'll be Tweeting, Facebooking and Foursquaring around the clock and using all the advantages that the web has to offer. But at the end of the day, words are words, even if they're streaming in binary code across "a series of tubes" (RIP Ted Stevens.)

Settle in with a cup of coffee, and take a look around at our site. I'm proud of the mix of stories I've found, from an in depth look at the process behind dyeing the lagoon to the story of a local junior chess champion.
