UPDATE: 1 Hospitalized in 2-Alarm Foster City Fire

The incident caused an estimated $300,000 in damages at a Foster City commercial building.

FOSTER CITY, CA – An injury was reported Wednesday afternoon in a two-alarm fire that resulted in roughly $300,000 damage to a Foster City commercial building and its contents, firefighters said.

Emergency crews responded to 1169 Chess Dr. at 2:11 p.m. to find a fire burning in a business near the middle of a 14-unit complex. The fire was primarily burning near the ceiling and in the rear warehouse are of the unit.

Police set up a perimeter and firefighters called for a second alarm. It took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to get the fire under control, and crews remained on scene putting out smoldering spot-fires for several hours.
One person in the affected unit was injured and taken to a hospital.

The incident caused damage throughout the affected unit, especially in the area near the roof. Two neighboring units will also need repairs.

Roughly a dozen large freshwater fish were rescued from the scene and turned over to the Peninsula Humane Society for further care.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters estimate that it resulted in $150,000 in damage to the structure and another $150,000 in damage to its contents.
