Anaheim Taxi Driver Deported to Mogadishu for Funding Terrorists

ANAHEIM, CA — An Orange County taxi driver was deported Tuesday according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. The former Anaheim resident was convicted of aiding terrorists in 2013. He was deported Tuesday to his native Somalia, federal officials said.

Ahmed Nasir Tahlil Mohamud, a 41-year-old Anaheim resident, was originally convicted along with three co-defendants in February 2013. They reportedly provided money to a terrorist militia group in Somalia, al-Shabaab.

The man who worked as a taxi driver in southern California raised money from Orange County donors, according to an ICE statement.

Mohamud, who was sentenced to six years in federal prison, became a lawful permanent U.S. resident in August 2004, according to ICE.

The 41-year-old Anaheim resident, Ahmed Nasir Tahlil Mohamud, was handed over to Mogadishu authorities on Tuesday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
