A doctor pleaded not guilty today to embezzling $220,000 earmarked for a foundation supporting Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.

Bruce Allan Hagadorn, 56, of Newport Beach, is accused of taking the money for a charity established while he was chief of staff at Irvine Regional Hospital and putting it into his own medical practice, Canyon Pacific OB/GYN in Irvine, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Irvine Regional Hospital officials voted to donate the money to Hoag’s foundation after it was determined Irvine Regional would close. Hagadom was put in charge of making the $220,000 donation, prosecutors allege.
