Great Escape: Surf City, USA

Explore the surfing capital of the world.

Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break or make your life a little easier—maybe a whole lot easier.

July is a great month to take advantage of Fountain Valley’s close proximity to the Huntington Beach, also known as Surf City, USA, and to soak up a little of that gnarly surf culture.

Start out with a visit to the International Surfing Museum, which honors the surf legends who helped make Huntington Beach the Mecca of surfing. The museum features collections of memorabilia, surf music, surf art, classic surfboards and a surf theater devoted to the first Endless Summer movie.

Next, take a stroll along the surfers Walk of Fame, where surf heroes like Duke Kahanamoku, Corky Carroll and Kelly Slater are immortalized in the granite sidewalk. Follow that with shopping to update  your look with some classic surfer style. Try one of the famous surf outlets on Main Street, like Jack's Surfboard or Huntington Surf and Sport.

Finally, finish up your Great Escape into surf culture with a lunch on the patio of Sandy’s Beach Grill under the Main Street Pier. You can enjoy watching the multitude of surfers as you sip a cocktail and soak in the rays.
