3 Firefighters Injured, Apartment Damaged In Blaze On E. Broadway Ave.
No residents harmed in the fire that broke out Sunday afternoon in Long Beach area.
LONG BEACH, CA – A Long Beach apartment was heavily damaged in a fire Sunday and three firefighters were hospitalized after extinguishing the flames. The fire at a second-story apartment above a business in the 1000 block of east Broadway Avenue was reported at 10:50 a.m., said Long Beach Fire Capt.Mark Miller. Forty-nine responding firefighters managed to put out the blaze within 10 minutes, but in that time it managed to deal heavy smoke damage to three nearby apartments, Miller said.
The business below was closed due to water damage, he said. Three firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion but no residents were harmed, Miller said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
