“The Notebook” (2004) has made Nicholas Sparks’ novels synonymous with tides of tears —the ebbs and flows of romance embodied in handwritten letters, enchanting words, and everlasting love.

A film adaptation of the author’s latest novel of the same title, “The Longest Ride,” reflects his same brand. However, what separates this latest movie installment from the others is the way it goes about portraying love’s essence as something that is timeless and precious.

In “The Longest Ride,” we see four different people from two different eras: one in the 1940’s and one in the present day.

The film stars some actors with famous connections: Scott Eastwood (Clint Eastwood’s son), Britt Robertson, Oona Chaplin (Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter), and Jack Huston (John Huston’s grandson) as two couples—separated by time and age—whose love stories become intertwined into one.
