Working Smoke Alarm Saves Family in Cypress Ave. Morning Fire

3 adults were saved by the blaring call of a working fire alarm this morning. Orange County Fire Authority reminds all to check their alarms

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA—A fire broke out this morning in the 700 block of S. Cypress Ave. in Santa Ana.

About 20 firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire in Santa Ana, to the 700 block of S. Cypress Avenue, according to the Orange County Fire Authority. One patient was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, according to the OCFA.

"Three adults were, two related—a mother and son—were at the home at the time of the fire," OCFA Capt. Stephen Horner said.

A working smoke alarm in the home activated just before 11 a.m.

The son came into the main house to find smoke and fire inside. He reportedly rescued and carried his mother out.

"The third victim was attempting to control the fire, suffered smoke inhalation," Horner said. That individual was treated on scene.

"He was transported with serious injuries to local area hospital," Horner said.

OCFA firefighters had the blaze put down within 15 minutes of arrival, Horner said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

"This is a reminder that it does pay to have a working smoke alarm in your home," he said. "Contact your local fire agency for information on what to do if you do not have a working fire alarm in your home."
