Car Hits Pedestrian In Lake Forest, Triggering Investigation: Police

The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Lake Forest Drive and Rockfield Boulevard, police said.

LAKE FOREST, CA — One person was hospitalized after they were hit by a car in Lake Forest Monday morning, authorities said.

The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the area of Lake Forest Boulevard and Rockfield, Orange County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Gerard McCann told Patch.

Upon arrival, police found the injured pedestrian.

They were taken to a nearby hospital, McCann said. Their name or identity was not released.

According to McCann, the investigation was ongoing Monday afternoon.

Family members identified the pedestrian as Javier Mejia, who is currently in the hospital facing serious injuries.

According to family members, the young man suffered multiple serious injuries, including broken bones in both legs, broken pelvic bones, fractured ribs, a collapsed lung, and swelling of the brain.

"This has been especially heartbreaking for his mother, sisters, and his young son," family members wrote on a GoFundMe page benefitting the Mejia family. "Seeing our loved one in this condition is something no family should ever have to experience."
