Alameda County: 2 More Coronavirus Deaths
Nationwide, the U.S. now has more confirmed cases than any other country.
ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Alameda County reported two new coronavirus deaths on Thursday, for a total of four since the outbreak began, while the total number of cases rose to 164. On Wednesday, the total cases were 124, according to the Alameda County Department of Public Health.
Further information on those who died — their ages and possible underlying health conditions — is not immediately available.
The City of Hayward opened a coronavirus testing center at a fire station earlier this week that does not require a referral from a doctor. Hayward reported on Thursday that on the first day of testing, 54 of 207 people tested positive for the infection. It is not clear how many of those cases were included in today's county health department rise.

The testing is free to everyone, regardless of where they live, so some of the people who tested positive may have been from another county. Here's information on the testing center if you or a family member need to be tested.

Hayward partnered with Avellino Lab of Menlo Park to set up the testing center.
Elsewhere in the East Bay, a nurse at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the first positive test in the jail, according to jail officials. And The Alameda County DA's Office has set up a phone number and online reporting to report coronavirus scams.
Nationwide, the number of coronavirus deaths soared to over 1,000 on Thursday, while the total number of diagnosed cases was over 82,400 by 3 p.m., overtaking Italy and China to have more cases than any other country.
