54 New Cases Of Coronavirus In Alameda County

While coronavirus continues to spread, California's death toll hit a new milestone.

ALAMEDA COUNTY — County health officials working to snuff-out new cases of coronavirus delivered bad news on Wednesday — 54 new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total in Alameda County to 1,863. The bright spot in Wednesday's report — there were no new deaths, leaving the county's death toll at 66.

Across California, the death toll surpassed the milestone of 2,500 on Wednesday.

The latest report from Johns Hopkins University shows that 2,511 people have died in the Golden State, and 59,833 have confirmed cases.

In the US, deaths have passed the 70,000 mark. Americans confirmed to have lost their lives to coronavirus: 73,039, while 1.2 million have confirmed diagnoses for the virus.

Around the world, 263,068 people are known to have died from coronavirus, and 3,744,585 cases have been confirmed.

Testing Centers

In Berkeley, a new testing center has opened for residents suffering from any of these nine symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Newly losing a sense of smell

Fremont has closed its free testing center. During the one month that it was in operation, 1,449 essential service workers were tested, and 171 were positive. The city has transitioned to providing free mobile testing, funded by the City of Fremont and performed by Fremont firefighters, with a focus on providing tests to high-risk and vulnerable populations such as those experiencing homelessness, and nursing home, assisted living and long-term care facility employees.
