Bomb Threat Closes Thornton Jr. High In Fremont

Students were evacuated Friday morning, police said, adding no suspicious device was located on the campus.

FREMONT, CA — Thornton Junior High School in Fremont closed Friday morning and students were dismissed due to an anonymous, email bomb threat, police said, adding that an "all-clear" was issued at about 10:30 a.m. when no suspicious device was located.

"All children are safe and have been evacuated," the Fremont Police Department said, adding that officers working with school officials and decided to close the campus at 4357 Thornton Ave.

"After a thorough search, officers were not able to locate anything suspicious on the campus," the department said. "The anonymous email threat has been turned over to detectives and they are investigating the source."

In a morning message, the Fremont Unified School District said: "Due to a potential threat to campus, Thornton Junior High School has been evacuated and will dismiss students at 9:00am. Students will be walked to the Cabrillo Shopping Center west of campus where they can be picked up.

"Parents/guardians may call their students to provide verbal permission for the student to walk home, otherwise they must be picked up at the shopping center. We are in contact with Alameda County Transit to arrange transport for students that normally ride the bus in the afternoon."

The Fremont agency noted it appreciated "everyone’s patience this morning," adding that, "these situations can be scary, and panic is often the first initial reaction.

"Today was a true test of the training an coordination our first responders prepare for throughout the school year with FUSD and everything went very smooth as a result".
