Carjacking Suspect Drives Through Elementary School During Fremont Chase: Police

FREMONT, CA — A carjacking suspect was arrested after leading police on a chase through a school playground in Fremont early Saturday morning.
Officers on the midnight shift received a notice from nearby law enforcement that a vehicle believed to be involved in an armed carjacking was captured on camera driving through Mission Boulevard, according to the Fremont Police Department.
Officers found the vehicle at a convenience store on Mission Boulevard and Niles Canyon Road, prompting the driver to take off, police said.

The driver drove through two fences and an elementary school playground before officers in another city were able to get them to stop, police said.
Nobody was at the school when the suspect drove to it, police said.

Few details about how authorities stopped the driver were immediately available. But the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being released to the law enforcement agency that covers the jurisdiction where the armed carjacking happened, authorities said.
