Condition of 1 Injured Police Officer Upgraded

He's one of two police officers shot in the line of duty on Wednesday.

FREMONT, CA - The Fremont Police Department announced this morning that the condition of one wounded police officer is improving. Unfortunately, the other officer remains in critical condition. The department asked the public via social media "please continue to keep our brothers in blue in your thoughts."

Both of the officers were shot Wednesday in separate incidents by the same gunman, according to police.

Police have not released new information today about the other two suspects taken into custody.

The shootings began as a traffic stop. Police Chief Richard Lucero announced yesterday that the vehicle was stolen. One officer was shot at the location of the stop. The suspects escaped on foot, splitting up. A second officer confronted the gunman about 10 minutes later. He, too, was shot. The gunman then disappeared into a neighborhood where he holed up in a home. After an all-night barricade situation, the home caught fire. The suspect's remains and gun were found in the home after the fire was extinguished.
