DUI Checkpoint Planned In Fremont
Officers will also check for valid driver's licenses.

FREMONT, CA — This Friday will be the last day of work for many people through the end of the year, with lots of lots of people making plans for drinks after work or holiday parties. Make sure you have a sober driver mixed into your plans. Fremont Police plan a DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint this Friday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Officers will screen drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing.
Drivers arrested for DUI can expect jail time, driver's license suspension, fines, fees, DUI classes, insurance increases, as well as other expenses that can exceed $10,000

According to law enforcement officials, the deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints has been proven to reduce the number of people killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
